Chotskies: Generally useless crap of little or no value. Similar to knick-knacks (from: urbandictionary.com)
In a diner, the presence of chotskies lets us know that the coffee will keep appearing in your mug, the hashbrowns will be crispy, the pancakes will be on point, and just maybe, you will get your choice of infused butter.
Such is the case at Tom’s Restaurant in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. We enjoy those perfect days when we can get off the B, Q line at Prospect Park, walk through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to head north on Washington Street, and continue past the Brooklyn Museum to the mecca of Egg Creams, Cherry Lime Ricky, crab cakes (for brunch!), Eggs Florentine, Sweet Potato Pancakes, Huevos Rancheros, and yes, your choice of Strawberry, Cinnamon, or Lemon/Lime infused butter.
One more thing, if you have to wait in line to be seated, or even if you don’t, they give you orange slices and sometimes little cookies. This shit is better than half time at a kids’ soccer game. So enjoy Tom’s, where they keep the vibe real and pleasantly festive (codeword for crowded).
